This Victorian terraced house is very much like the ones in which many of us live. It has had many families and many lives pass through it. Our clients bought it because they liked the light, the simplicity of the spaces off a single stair, and the good sizes of the rooms. What they didn’t like was the relationship between house and garden, the tiredness of the kitchen and bathrooms, and the overall level of design and decoration throughout the house.
Our approach was simple: bring to the fore the qualities they liked and address the qualities they didn’t. On this basis a glass and timber extension was added to connect living, dining and kitchen spaces into the garden which extends the entertaining and relaxing zones to the outdoors. A new kitchen as well as redesigned bathrooms – and a total refresh of colours, floor finishes, and lighting to the rest of the house – helped to provide a calm and desirable place to live.
