CHI Building 3, Gresse Street

This is the most recent of the new CHI-branded spaces comprising the ground and first floors of a recently completed speculative commercial property. Rather than dictate the branding of the spaces each of the various partners were able to input on the branding of their own spaces within a unifying framework.

The floors was developed to maximise flexibility – for growth and for change. Two ceiling mounted rafts suggested zoned areas whilst maintaining flexibility and distribution additional services and lighting. A new ground-floor reception offers shared meeting spaces, a coffee bar, and hanging space for temporary art exhibits.

The key element, though, is the new staircase cut out of the existing building fabric to connect the two floors and the various parts of the agency. The works for the stair were co-ordinated with structural engineers, base-build services engineers, fire inspectors – all to the satisfaction of the landlord and the local authority.

The programme was incredibly tight and the demolition/stripping out, flooring, services and furniture were all achieved within a few weeks to ensure the new agencies were able to move in according to their own tight timetables.
