CoStar, an international property database company, approached Studio Buschow to move them from Mayfair to the West End. This move was felt to offer the opportunity for a change in culture and a change in corporate style for this UK branch of an American organisation.
As is often the case with fit-outs, time was of the essence as the date to vacate their existing premises had already been agreed. Studio Buschow provided advice regarding procurement (moving to a two-stage tender), programming (front-loading the design and co-ordination), as well as a complete design service (ensuring all parties – both in the UK and the US – were satisfied with the proposals). The resulting solution depended upon a clear strategy, delivered with absolute conviction and meticulous planning.
Several initial design concepts were proposed before the client agreed to a layout that offered flexible working areas acting as bookends to more fixed elements including reception, meeting rooms, a canteen and the server room. Features include timber panels with concealed doors, a timber-slatted access ceiling, recycled rubber flooring, and 24-hour live video conferencing between the UK and US offices.
